Xbox CEO Asha Sharma denies sale rumors amid major restructuring

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has officially denied rumors that Microsoft intends to sell or spin off its gaming division, stating, “Xbox is not for sale.” This clarification comes amid a massive restructuring effort aimed at improving profitability and streamlining operations.

The reorganization includes significant workforce reductions, with plans to cut approximately 3,200 employees through fiscal year 2027. The company is also shifting its studio management structure: Activision will now oversee the development of the next Halo game; Bethesda will supervise Obsidian; King will be integrated into Microsoft Casual Games; and Playground Games and Turn 10 will merge into a single studio focused on the Forza and Fable franchises.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has expressed support for these optimization processes, emphasizing the need for a sustainable business model. The restructuring follows reports that Microsoft had previously considered divesting the division due to low profit margins, despite investing over $20 billion in content, platform, and hardware subsidies over the last five years.
