Xcel Energy to sell Michigan operations to SEMCO and UPPCO

Xcel Energy has announced the sale of its Michigan operations to SEMCO Energy Gas Company and Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO). Under the proposed agreement, Xcel Energy’s 6,000 natural gas customers in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties will transition to SEMCO, while its 9,000 electric customers will be served by UPPCO.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval. Xcel Energy stated the move is intended to place customers with utilities that focus specifically on serving Michigan and the Upper Peninsula long-term. The companies are working to ensure a seamless transition with no immediate changes to billing, rates, or customer service processes.
