Xóchitl Gálvez accuses Carlos Ímaz of missing conciliation hearing
Legal tensions have escalated between former presidential candidate Xóchitl Gálvez and academic Carlos Ímaz following a missed conciliation hearing at the Superior Court of Justice of Mexico City on August 7.
Gálvez reported via social media that Ímaz failed to appear at the scheduled meeting intended to resolve a lawsuit regarding alleged moral damages. Gálvez defended her actions, stating, "I was summoned to a conciliation hearing with Carlos Ímaz, but he did not arrive. I am a woman of institutions and I attended because I believe in dialogue."
The legal dispute stems from the second presidential debate held on April 28, 2024. During the debate, Gálvez displayed a photograph depicting Ímaz alongside businessman Carlos Ahumada during an incident involving cash. Ímaz filed a civil lawsuit claiming the statements and the dissemination of the image damaged his honor, reputation, and public image.
Gálvez maintains that her comments were based on public knowledge, referencing a video from 2004. She framed the lawsuit as an attempt at censorship, asserting, "In times when censorship is intended to be applied, let us defend freedom of expression because it is a right of all Mexicans."
