Automotive industry sees growth in Brazil and autonomous trials in Germany

The global automotive and logistics sectors are experiencing significant shifts driven by electrification and automation. In Brazil, the vehicle market is showing robust growth, with new vehicle registrations increasing by 18.9% in 2026 compared to the previous year. This growth is characterized by a surge in electric and hybrid vehicle sales, which are gaining market share due to increased competition from Chinese brands and evolving consumer preferences.

In Europe, logistics technology is advancing through pilot programs. Lidl, in collaboration with the Swedish company Einride, has launched a trial in Germany using an autonomous, driverless electric truck. The vehicle, which operates at SAE Level 4 autonomy, travels on public roads between a distribution center and a store in Edermünde. This project aims to test the reliability of driverless technology in daily retail logistics.

However, challenges remain in the transition to electric heavy transport. Karin Rådström, CEO of Daimler Truck AG, noted that charging infrastructure in Europe is advancing much slower than required to meet EU targets, highlighting a gap between regulatory goals and practical implementation.
