Xeraco and Galicia invest in modernizing and digitizing water supply

Veolia completed a €59,120 project in the Spanish town of Xeraco, installing ultrasonic digital meters at key capture points and replacing a corroded steel column. The upgrade, financed by a local grant, aims to improve real‑time monitoring, cut water losses and lower energy consumption.

The Xunta de Galicia has allocated more than €16 million to digitize municipal water networks, install monitoring equipment and audit losses, which amount to 26.4 million cubic metres (about 17.8% of supplied water). An additional €4.5 million is being spent on the operation, conservation and maintenance of regional reservoirs, which remain at roughly 86.5% of capacity. Together, the measures are intended to strengthen drought preparedness and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of water services in the region.
