Ryan Coogler completes two‑hour X‑Files reboot pilot on 65mm film, may be released as a movie

Director Ryan Coogler has finished filming the pilot for a reboot of the classic sci‑fi series "The X‑Files." The two‑hour episode was shot on 65 mm film by cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw and stars Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler as new FBI agents investigating unexplained cases. The pilot also features Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi and Ben Foster, while rumors persist about possible appearances by series originals David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, none of which have been confirmed.

Coogler has asked Disney, the studio behind the project and the owner of Hulu, to consider releasing the pilot as a theatrical feature. Hulu has not yet green‑lit a full series, and Disney has not decided on the film proposal. The production is part of Disney’s broader strategy of reviving legacy franchises acquired from Fox.
