Xhamile Mara celebrates 117th birthday in Albania

Xhamile Mara, residing in the village of Feras in the Berat region, has celebrated her 117th birthday, making her the oldest woman in Albania. Despite her age, she reportedly suffers from no illnesses and takes no medication.

Having raised seven children and worked in agriculture throughout her life, Mara remains active, maintaining a daily routine of cleaning her yard and tending to poultry. Her diet consists primarily of poultry and dairy products from her family farm.

While her family celebrates her vitality, they face significant financial challenges. Her son, who is over 80 years old, struggles to cover living expenses with a minimal pension of 9,400 lek. Consequently, the family has issued a public appeal to the Albanian state for a special pension to ensure her dignified old age.
