Kosovo legal developments: Konjufca acquitted, Sveçla trial pending

Several legal and political developments are unfolding in Kosovo and Albania. In Kosovo, the Basic Court in Prishtina has acquitted Glauk Konjufca of the charge of using a weapon or dangerous device regarding a 2016 tear gas incident in the Assembly; the charge of obstructing an official had already reached the statute of limitations.

Separately, the prosecution has requested the conviction of Xhelal Sveçla for the same type of offense involving a tear gas canister in the Assembly, with a verdict expected on September 2. In Albania, the Special Court has upheld the arrest of Ergys Agasi in the 'AKSHI' case, and Ylli Zalla faces charges for narcotics and weapons possession following an investigation into the murder of Gilmando Danit.

Furthermore, Kosovo Mufti Naim Tërnava has called for an institutional investigation into a 'Top Secret' document allegedly found on Fatmir Sheholli's phone. The document reportedly claims the Islamic Community of Kosovo is under Serbian intelligence influence and aims to radicalize the region, claims which Tërnava has described as extremely serious and requiring full verification.
