Xi Jinping and Andy Burnham discuss China-UK strategic partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to congratulate him on his appointment. During the call, Xi emphasized that China and the United Kingdom are all-round strategic partners, noting that while the two nations possess different social systems and national statuses, their shared interests outweigh their differences.

Xi highlighted potential cooperation in education, medicine, and finance as China expands openness during its 15th Five-Year Plan. He also called for strengthened coordination within international organizations such as the UN, G-20, and WTO to promote global multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization. Additionally, he expressed hope that the UK would ensure the legal rights of Chinese investors.

Prime Minister Burnham agreed with these sentiments, stating that the UK intends to maintain policy continuity and continue developing a long-term, stable strategic partnership with China. He expressed readiness to increase high-level exchanges and cooperation across various sectors to restore bilateral relations to their highest historical levels.
