Xi Jinping and Donald Trump summit sparks diplomatic tension

Following a state visit to Washington, Chinese President Xi Jinping has left behind a visible presence at the White House, where photographs of him alongside President Donald Trump are displayed in the Palm Room.

The visit was marked by diplomatic friction regarding historical documents. Reports indicate that an initial display at the National Archives, which included the 1951 Treaty of San Francisco, caused anger from Chinese officials. The tension stemmed from the fact that the treaty was not signed by China and did not explicitly commit the future of Taiwan to the Chinese government. The display was reportedly removed before the leaders arrived to avoid further escalation.

While the summit included high-level interactions, Russian President Vladimir Putin maintained a notable silence regarding the meeting between the United States and China. This lack of commentary from Moscow follows a period where Putin provided his own assessments of the geopolitical landscape via press briefings in St. Petersburg.
