Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi reaffirm China-India partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, agreeing that the two nations should act as partners rather than rivals. The leaders held in-depth discussions on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

According to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the leaders reached a “most important consensus” regarding their strategic relationship. They pledged to jointly maintain peace and tranquility in border areas and support each other in their respective roles within BRICS.

President Xi noted that bilateral trade has reached record highs and that institutional exchanges are resuming. He emphasized that as two of the world’s most populous countries and key members of the Global South, China and India play a vital role in promoting global stability and prosperity. Both sides expressed a desire to expand cooperation in economic trade, people-to-people exchanges, and direct flights while managing existing differences and contradictions.
