Xi Jinping Calls for Accelerated ‘Healthy China’ Initiative by 2035

President Xi Jinping urged the rapid advancement of the “Healthy China” program, stating that the 15th Five‑Year Plan must deliver a fully built health system by 2035. He emphasized integrating health priorities into all public policies, strengthening the public‑health infrastructure, expanding disease prevention, mental‑health services, and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine.

The speech also called for reforms of public hospitals, medical insurance, drug pricing and procurement, and for greater use of technology and health data. Xi highlighted the need for nationwide health education, fitness promotion, and a robust emergency response capacity to ensure the wellbeing of China’s large and diverse population.
