Xi Jinping urges BRICS to lead Global South and mediate conflicts

At the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the alliance to act as a leading force for the Global South and to play a more active role in resolving international conflicts.

Xi specifically addressed the war in the Middle East, stating that the conflict does not serve the interests of the international community and causes significant population losses. He expressed China's readiness to work with other BRICS members to help stabilize the region and the Persian Gulf. He also urged the bloc to oppose violations of sovereignty and interference in the internal affairs of states.

Beyond security, Xi emphasized economic development through innovation, specifically inviting cooperation in artificial intelligence. He noted that BRICS has successfully navigated challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and global financial crises over the past 20 years. Additionally, Xi announced that China will assume the BRICS presidency and host the 19th summit in 2027.
