Xi Jinping commemorates 90th anniversary of the Long March

President Xi Jinping led a ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to mark the 90th anniversary of the Red Army’s victory in the Long March. The event, held on October 22, 2026, was attended by high-ranking officials, including members of the Politburo Standing Committee such as Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, as well as Vice President Han Zheng.

In his speech, Xi emphasized the importance of remembering history to create a brighter future. He called for the Communist Party, the military, and all ethnic groups to strengthen unity around the Central Committee of the CPC to achieve new successes in China’s modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He noted that the Long March remains a vital legacy and a driving force for overcoming contemporary challenges.

The ceremony included a moment of silence for revolutionary martyrs. Discussions surrounding the anniversary also highlighted the ‘Long March spirit’ as a metaphor for China’s ongoing development and the historical bond between the Party and the people, exemplified by stories of mutual support during the original 1934–1936 campaign.
