Xi Jinping health claims spark speculation over Chinese leadership

Lobsang Sangay, the former leader of the Tibetan government-in-exile, has claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping has suffered at least two, and possibly three, heart attacks. Sangay stated that this information was provided by a former senior Chinese official during a conversation.

These claims suggest potential political instability and a succession crisis within the Chinese Communist Party. Sangay noted that Xi’s alleged health issues, including physical weakness and ‘mental fog’, may be impacting his decision-making and contributing to the sudden removal of senior military and ministerial officials.

Additionally, Wanjun Xie, chairman of the China Democracy Party, reported observing Xi Jinping appearing physically unwell, noting swelling and difficulty walking when arriving in Bishkek via special plane. While these reports raise questions regarding leadership continuity and the ‘Emperor’s Dilemma’—where a long-standing leader avoids naming a successor to prevent challenges—there is currently no independent medical evidence or official confirmation from China to verify these health claims.
