Xi Jinping invites Donald Trump to China during Washington state visit

During a state visit to Washington, Chinese President Xi Jinping invited U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife to visit China. Xi suggested two potential opportunities for a meeting: the APEC summit to be held in Shenzhen, China, or the G20 summit in Miami, Florida.

In a related gesture of soft power, Xi announced that two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, will soon arrive at the Atlanta Zoological Society in the southeastern United States. This move continues China’s practice of ‘panda diplomacy,’ where pandas are loaned to other nations to foster international influence and positive relations.

The leaders' discussions in Washington reportedly covered global conflicts, including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as trade disputes between the world's two largest economies.
