Xi Jinping to publish article on strengthening basic research

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, will have an article published in the 18th issue of the Qiushi Journal on September 16 regarding the strengthening of basic research.

The article emphasizes that basic research serves as the foundation of the entire scientific system and a critical source for solving technical problems. It identifies basic research as a vital front in global technological competition and a key metric for measuring a nation's scientific and technological strength.

To become a global leader in science and technology, the article asserts that China must continuously elevate its level of basic research. While improvements have been made through better planning, investment, and institutional innovation since the 18th National Congress, gaps remain compared to major global powers. The text calls for increased efforts and concrete measures in four key areas, including improving overall planning and strengthening talent teams.
