Xiamen company uses toxic pesticide to disinfect restaurants and public venues

Xiamen Lvlinsen Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. is under investigation following reports that the company used dichlorvos, a highly toxic pesticide, for disinfection services in various public venues. While initial reports focused on the company spraying the chemical on tableware and near ingredients in dozens of chain restaurants, further investigations revealed the service scope extends to cinemas, maternity centers, and hotels.

Employees reportedly performed disinfection at nearly 10 locations per day, with the company serving over 300 restaurants in a single month. Investigations found that staff transferred the pesticide from its original packaging to other containers and removed product labels to hide its use. Workers cited lower costs as the primary reason for using the prohibited chemical over compliant products.

Authorities in Xiamen, Shenzhen, and Chongqing have launched investigations into the matter. The incident has sparked significant public outcry regarding regulatory oversight and the safety of public spaces, as dichlorvos is known for its long residual period and potential to cause severe harm to human soft tissues and life safety.
