Xi'an-Chongqing High-Speed Railway completes Gaosheng No. 2 Tunnel

The Gaosheng No. 2 Tunnel on the Xi'an-Chongqing High-Speed Railway was successfully completed on October 11. Located in the Kaizhou District of Chongqing, the 7,234-meter tunnel was classified as a Grade I high-risk project due to extremely complex geological conditions, including landslides, rock piles, and karst water issues.

Construction teams utilized 24-hour intelligent gas monitoring and advanced drainage systems to manage risks such as gas accumulation and water inflow. The completion of this tunnel marks a significant milestone for the project, which has now seen 66 tunnels completed across its route.

The full 739-kilometer high-speed railway is designed for speeds of 350 km/h and is expected to be operational by 2028. Once completed, the line will reduce travel time between Xi'an and Chongqing from approximately six hours to roughly 2.5 hours, enhancing connectivity within China's western regions.
