Xi'an Woman Dies During Bronchoscopy as Anesthesiologist Allegedly Used Phone

A 37‑year‑old woman in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, died while undergoing a bronchoscopic examination at the Xi'an Chest Hospital. Her husband reviewed CCTV footage and reported that the anesthesiologist spent most of the procedure looking at a mobile phone, failing to monitor vital signs. The husband also said a media crew filmed the procedure without proper protective gear or prior notice, which he believes distracted staff.

Hospital officials have described the doctor’s responsibility as limited, noting that an autopsy has been completed and that the case is under investigation by the Shaanxi provincial health commission and a medical dispute mediation committee. The incident has sparked public concern over medical safety and professional conduct in Chinese hospitals.
