Xiaomi and XPeng leaders discuss AI automotive and robotics development

Xiaomi Chairman Lei Jun has emphasized the importance of real-world testing alongside AI integration in automotive quality management. During a speech at a China Quality Association event, Lei noted that while AI marks a new era for quality, Xiaomi continues to utilize nearly 3,000 test vehicles to conduct lifecycle testing in actual environments. The company has invested 105 billion yuan in R&D over the last five years and plans to exceed 200 billion yuan in the next five years. Xiaomi also highlighted its quality control infrastructure, which includes 802 self-built laboratories and 35 joint laboratories.

Separately, XPeng CEO He Xiaopeng discussed the challenges of the robotics sector, stating that developing robots is approximately 20 times more difficult than manufacturing automobiles. He noted that while XPeng is working toward mass production, significant capability leaps for their robotics division are expected between the fourth quarter of this year and the second quarter of next year. This announcement followed the launch of the XPeng G9L, a new flagship model featuring advanced AI projection headlights and intelligent driving capabilities.
