Xiaomi to launch electric vehicles in Europe by 2027
At the IFA 2026 technology fair in Berlin, Xiaomi announced its strategic expansion into the European electric vehicle (EV) market, with a planned launch in 2027. The company aims to integrate its automotive division into its broader 'Human x Car x Home' ecosystem, using its HyperOS operating system and artificial intelligence to connect smartphones, smart home devices, and vehicles.
To facilitate this entry, Xiaomi has moved away from a direct-sales-only model, instead signing memorandums of understanding with eight major German automotive dealer groups, including Emil Frey Germany and LUEG Mobility Group. This approach is intended to establish a robust sales and service network from the outset. The company also maintains a dedicated research and development center in Munich to adapt its technology to European standards, including high-speed driving capabilities and extreme weather resilience.
Xiaomi's automotive lineup, which includes the SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV, has already seen significant success in China, with over 700,000 vehicles delivered as of mid-2026. The company faces challenges in Europe, including potential high import tariffs on Chinese-made EVs and intense competition from established European manufacturers.
