Xiaomi develops Smart Privacy Display for upcoming HyperOS 4
Xiaomi is reportedly developing a “Smart Privacy Display” feature designed to prevent bystanders from viewing smartphone content from side angles. This functionality, which appears to compete with Samsung’s existing privacy display technology, is expected to be integrated into the upcoming HyperOS 4 software.
Leaked interface settings suggest that users will be able to apply privacy protections to the entire screen or to specific applications, notifications, and sensitive views. The system may automatically recognize and protect pages involving passwords, financial transfers, or private messages.
Technical details suggest this may involve “hardware-level privacy protection,” implying that the feature might require specific display hardware capable of narrowing viewing angles to direct light toward the user while darkening the image for those looking from the side. While currently visible in China-based software versions, official confirmation regarding compatible models and a global release date has not yet been provided by Xiaomi.
