Xiaomi and OPPO lead smartphone trends amid new hardware reveals

The consumer electronics sector is seeing significant activity across smartphone design and energy sustainability. Xiaomi is reportedly working on a transparent design for its upcoming Xiaomi 18 series, potentially reviving the aesthetic seen in the Mi 10 Ultra. The series is expected to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips.

In the mid-range market, the Redmi 17 has been introduced in Indonesia, featuring a 7,500 mAh battery, 45W turbo charging, and an interactive RGB light on the rear panel. Other reports on the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max suggest it may utilize a Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 processor to manage costs, despite a rumored 10,000 mAh battery.

In the premium segment, the OPPO Find X9 Ultra has won the EISA award for ‘Photo & Video Smartphone 2026-2027’. Developed with Hasselblad, the device features an imaging system with focal lengths ranging from 14mm to 230mm.

Separately, in the telecommunications sector, Orange Slovensko has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement with Enery. The company will source renewable electricity from a new 12.5 MWp photovoltaic plant in the Banská Bystrica region to power its mobile network, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions.
