Xiaomi and Chery advance EV battery technology and market expansion

Chinese automotive manufacturers are making significant advancements in battery technology and international expansion. Xiaomi has introduced its Dragonscale battery for the Skynomad SUV series, developed in partnership with CALB and Sunwoda. This new technology features an AI-based Cloud Battery Management System (BMS) and includes a lifetime safety guarantee. Xiaomi has pledged to replace vehicles with equivalent models if a fire occurs due to manufacturing defects.

In terms of market expansion, Xiaomi Auto announced plans to enter the European market by 2027, starting with Germany. The company has signed memorandums of understanding with eight German dealership groups to establish a sales and service network, opting for local partnerships rather than a direct-to-consumer model.

Separately, Chery Group has announced an investment of approximately $1.5 billion (10 billion yuan) into next-generation battery innovation. The company plans to assign 1,200 engineers to the project, aiming to develop batteries that could double current energy density by 2027. Chery emphasized that safety remains a primary requirement for all future battery installations.
