Xibei founder calls for regulation of high-traffic social media accounts
Xibei founder Jia Guolong has called for regulators to clarify the boundaries of speech for high-traffic social media accounts. Speaking at a development conference on September 20, Jia urged a distinction between legitimate public supervision and “malicious disparagement, commercial defamation, and online soft violence.”
Jia’s comments follow recent online rumors suggesting the company is facing imminent collapse. He noted that some high-traffic accounts bypass legal channels like mediation or litigation, instead using the internet to incite public opinion, offer rewards for targeting the company, or attack business partners.
While some social media reports claimed the company faced massive losses and widespread store closures, Xibei customer service has denied these rumors, stating that all stores nationwide are currently operating normally and requesting that the public view online information rationally.
