Santa María Magdalena festivals celebrated with sawdust carpet in Xico and processions across Spain

Families in Xico, Veracruz, created a 1,000‑metre coloured sawdust carpet on Calle Hidalgo on 19 July 2026 to honor their patron saint, Santa María Magdalena. The tradition, lasting 35 years, involves wooden templates, about 40 sacks of coloured sawdust and a procession of the saint’s image between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., accompanied by fireworks.

In the Galician city of Ferrol, the historic A Madalena neighbourhood revived its patronal feast for Santa María Magdalena on 22 July 2026. The programme includes a mass at the Concatedral de San Xiao, a street procession, traditional music, and a free children’s fair.

Villaquilambre in León will hold its “Fiestas de la Magdalena” on 22‑23 July 2026, combining the religious procession with music, gastronomy, a football‑versus‑married‑men match, a foam party, concerts by Gran Orquesta Cañón and Clan Zero, and other family activities.
