XII Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum to convene in Madrid

The XII Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum will take place on October 1 and 2 in Madrid, Spain, bringing together legislative representatives from 22 Ibero-American nations. The event, held at the Congress of Deputies and the Spanish Senate, serves as a precursor to the XXX Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Key discussion topics include the impact of artificial intelligence on congresses, gender equality, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy. A significant portion of the forum will focus on “threats to democracy,” specifically addressing political fragmentation, polarization, disinformation, and populism.

Among the participants, Costa Rican Legislative Assembly President Yara Jiménez will co-preside the forum. Mexican Senator Mario Vázquez will participate in the sessions regarding democratic threats, emphasizing the need for international dialogue to address challenges that transcend borders. The inaugural session is scheduled to be presided over by King Felipe VI of Spain.
