Xinjiang emerges as critical Eurasian gateway for SCO
Nurlan Yermekbayev, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), recently conducted meetings in China's Xinjiang region with Party Secretary Chen Xiaojiang and other local officials.
Xinjiang serves as a critical gateway for China into Eurasia and is a central hub for the Belt and Road Initiative. Key infrastructure developments in the region include the Khorgos Gate on the border with Kazakhstan, which acts as a vital node in a modern Silk Road connecting Europe to the Sea of Japan. The region has seen massive expansion in rail freight, logistics centers, factories, housing, pipelines, and telecommunications, contributing to significant shifts in global politics and economics.
