Xinran Sun advances to China Open second round

Sixteen-year-old Xinran Sun, the recent US Open girls' singles champion, has advanced to the second round of the China Open in Beijing after a first-round victory over Eva Lys.

Sun, who received a wildcard for the WTA 1000 tournament, dominated the match against the German player. After winning the first set 6-1, Lys sought medical assistance and subsequently retired from the match, resulting in a walkover for Sun.

Sun’s recent success follows a significant summer in junior tennis, during which she reached the girls' singles finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon before securing her first Grand Slam singles title at the US Open. She is scheduled to face Cristina Bucsa in the next round.
