Xiquets de Tarragona mark 100‑year anniversary with historic shirt tribute
On 2 August 2024 the casteller group Xiquets de Tarragona commemorated its centenary by marching through key sites in Tarragona, including the Portal de Sant Antoni, Santa Anna, the Amfiteatre, the Balcó del Mediterrani, the Pretori and the Circ Romà. Participants raised pillars while displaying three historic shirts – a blue 1926 shirt, a lilac shirt from the Colla Nova era and the striped shirt adopted in 1970 – to illustrate the group’s evolution over a century. More than a hundred castellers and members of the public took part, and the event concluded with a communal vermouth in the Plaça del Rei. Coordinator Laia Sabaté explained that the shirts symbolise the changing history of the colla, while cap de colla Roger Budesca highlighted the strong current position of the group. The celebration forms part of a broader programme of activities marking the Xiquets’ 100‑year legacy.
