XLGAMES reveals business model and gameplay details for ArcheAge Chronicles

XLGAMES has released new details regarding its upcoming open-world action MMORPG, ArcheAge Chronicles. Executive Producer Yongjin Ham confirmed the title will utilize a buy-to-play business model for its early access phase. During this initial period, the studio intends to operate without an in-game shop for cosmetic or other items, emphasizing that character progression and competitive advantages must be earned through gameplay rather than pay-to-win mechanics.

Post-early access, the studio is considering optional purchases related to customization, convenience, and additional content, while maintaining a strict policy against pay-to-win elements. The game features four base classes—Battlerage, Archery, Sorcery, and Defense—with a combat system focused on tactical timing, such as parrying and dodging.

Key gameplay features include glider flight, underwater exploration, housing, crafting, and trading. A playable demo is scheduled to be available during the Steam Next Fest in October, which will include new dungeons and PvP elements. The game's release has been adjusted to the fourth quarter of 2026.
