XLSMART develops 8,000km CANDLE submarine cable system

PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk is developing the CANDLE Cable System, an 8,000-kilometer submarine communication cable designed to enhance Indonesia's digital infrastructure. The project aims to connect Indonesia with Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan.

Scheduled to begin operations in 2028, the project reached a milestone with the landing of the Golden Buoy in Tanjung Bemban, Batam. The development, which began in December 2024, is intended to provide high-capacity international connectivity and support the growth of Indonesia's digital economy.

The CANDLE Cable System is a collaborative effort involving XLSMART, Meta, Globe Telecom, IPS Inc., Telekom Malaysia, and SoftBank Japan, with NEC serving as the technology partner. The selection of Batam as a landing point leverages the region's potential as a hub for telecommunications companies and hyperscalers.
