XLSmart expands 5G coverage to 23 cities in Central Java and Yogyakarta
XLSmart has expanded its 5G network coverage across 23 cities and regencies in Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Utilizing a ‘5G Blanket Coverage’ approach, the telecommunications operator aims to provide more comprehensive and widespread high-speed connectivity rather than limiting service to specific points.
The expansion is supported by more than 9,600 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) distributed throughout the region. This move responds to a 17 percent increase in internet data traffic in the Yogyakarta–Solo corridor over the past year. Notable growth in data usage was recorded in Sleman (32 percent), Bantul (28 percent), Yogyakarta City (27 percent), Surakarta (17 percent), and Boyolali (10 percent).
Shurish Subbramaniam, Director and Chief Technology Officer of XLSmart, stated that the development focuses on increasing network capacity and quality in high-activity areas, including educational zones, residential areas, commercial centers, transportation hubs, and tourist destinations. Key covered areas include Malioboro, Tugu Yogyakarta, Prambanan Temple, and Solo Balapan Station.
