XLSMART launches AI-powered e-waste collection program at ITB

PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk, in collaboration with REMIND, has launched the #ByeByeBox Campus Roadshow at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Running from September 14 to September 28, 2026, the initiative aims to promote responsible electronic waste (e-waste) management.

The #ByeByeBox is described as Indonesia’s first E-Waste Reverse Vending Machine. The technology utilizes cameras and artificial intelligence to scan, validate, weigh, and record small electronic devices submitted by the public. This process facilitates the collection of waste for material recovery, supporting circular economy principles.

During the first phase of the campaign, which continues until November 2026, the partnership targets the collection of 600 kilograms of e-waste. Merza Fachys, Director and Chief Regulatory Officer of XLSMART, stated that the program seeks to make e-waste management more accessible and relevant to the younger generation as part of the company’s commitment to ESG and sustainability.
