Xochimilco journalist reports firearm attack on residence

Estefanía Galicia, a communicator and territory defender, has denounced a direct firearm attack against her home in the Xochimilco borough of Mexico City. Galicia reported that the incident occurred on August 2, noting that a shot was fired through her window.

This event follows a previous incident in January 2024, where animal remains were left at her doorstep, an act she described as a direct message. Members of the collective Sueña Dignidad stated that these aggressions represent a pattern of intimidation and criminalization against community journalists and territory defenders.

Advocates have criticized the effectiveness of local protection mechanisms, claiming that emergency response tools are non-functional. The case has been reported to the Prosecutor's Office.
