Volkswagen and XPeng launch ID. Unyx 09 in China

Volkswagen and XPeng are advancing their partnership in China with the launch of the ID. Unyx 09, an electric coupe-style vehicle. Produced through a joint venture with JAC, the model features 5C fast-charging technology capable of charging from 10% to 80% in under twelve minutes. The vehicle utilizes CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries and is positioned to compete in the highly contested Chinese market.

Separately, XPeng is pursuing a strategic shift to become a technology provider. The company plans to license its internal development platforms—including electrical/electronic architecture, cockpit systems, Turing AI chips, and advanced driver-assistance software—to international manufacturers. This move aims to diversify revenue streams and offset recent financial pressures, such as a decline in delivery volumes.

While XPeng's X9 luxury minivan has received industry recognition, the company continues to face market skepticism regarding sales momentum. Meanwhile, Volkswagen faces structural challenges in its home market, including declining market share in China and potential production adjustments in Germany.
