Xpeng G9 electric SUV tested in Germany, praised for luxury and 500 km range

Chinese automaker Xpeng's G9 SUV was put through a real‑world test in Munich. The 4.89‑metre long, 1.93‑metre wide vehicle offers a premium cabin with ventilated and massaging seats, a meditation mode and a large infotainment touchpad that also controls conventional functions such as the windshield wipers.

The G9 is powered by a 351‑horsepower front‑wheel‑drive system and a 93.3 kWh battery that delivers consumption of 20‑22 kWh per 100 km, giving an estimated range of about 500 km. It can reach a top speed of 200 km/h and provides 660 litres of luggage space, expandable to over 1,500 litres with the rear seats folded. Volkswagen acquired a 5 % stake in Xpeng for roughly $700 million in 2023 to co‑develop electric cars, underscoring the brand’s push into the European market.
