XPENG Group receives L4 autonomous driving demonstration permit

XPENG Group has announced that its Robotaxi brand, XPENG YOYO, has officially been granted L4-level autonomous driving demonstration operation qualifications. This milestone marks the transition of the business from technical verification and internal testing to a phase of open user operations and commercial exploration.

The company has reached this stage through a series of developmental milestones in 2024, including obtaining road testing permits in Guangzhou, establishing a dedicated Robotaxi business department, and completing the production of its first mass-produced Robotaxi vehicle in May. Following internal testing that recorded over 2,200 orders, the brand is now legally authorized to conduct real-world operational verification on public roads.

XPENG aims to achieve passenger operations without a safety driver by next year. The acquisition of this qualification is seen as a validation of the company’s local operational capabilities in Guangzhou and provides a foundation for potentially exporting its integrated autonomous driving solutions to global partners.
