Xpeng HT: Advancing the Low-Altitude Economy via Flying Cars
Xpeng HT is positioning its split-body flying car, the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” as a key player in the emerging low-altitude economy. Unlike Tesla’s recent Roadster demonstration, which utilizes a short-burst cold gas propulsion system for high-impact visual stunts, Xpeng HT focuses on a practical eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) approach designed for utility.
The Land Aircraft Carrier consists of a ground vehicle and an independent flying unit that can separate and take off automatically. Xpeng HT aims for mass production and delivery by mid-2027. While the technology is advancing, the industry faces significant hurdles, including airspace regulations, pilot certification, and the need for specialized landing infrastructure.
Currently, the commercialization of flying cars is transitioning from a novelty to a business model. Initial sales are expected to target high-net-worth individuals, tourism operators, and emergency services rather than daily commuters. Meanwhile, in the logistics sector, drone delivery services from companies like Meituan and SF Express are already achieving profitability by leveraging high-density flight routes to lower per-order costs.
