XPeng integrates Google Maps SDK into new L03 electric model

Chinese automaker XPeng is integrating the Google Maps SDK into its new L03 electric model to improve its software offerings in the European market. Rather than building proprietary global mapping services or relying solely on smartphone mirroring like Android Auto, XPeng will use Google’s data for real-time traffic, route guidance, and point-of-interest information while maintaining its own user interface and design.

The integration is expected to enhance charging planning by calculating energy needs based on battery data and suggesting fast-charging stations along routes. Furthermore, the Google Maps data will serve as a foundational layer for XPeng’s Next Generation Pilot (NGP) driving assistance system. Utilizing the VLA 2.0 AI architecture, the NGP aims to provide Level 2++ semi-autonomous driving capabilities, with testing scheduled for European roads starting in 2027.
