XPeng launches upgraded G6 SUV in Australia and targets 2027 AI‑driven autonomous rollout

Chinese EV maker XPeng introduced a substantially revised G6 electric SUV for the Australian market. The facelift adds an 800‑volt architecture capable of 5C charging, allowing the battery to go from 10 % to 80 % in about 12 minutes. New variants include an all‑wheel‑drive Performance grade and a Black Edition with exclusive styling. Inside, the G6 receives Nappa‑leather seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, an 18‑speaker XOPERA 2.0 audio system and upgraded driver‑assist features such as adaptive cruise control and 360‑degree cameras. The model remains XPeng’s sole Australian offering while a larger X9 is expected later.

Separately, XPeng announced that its Vision‑Language‑Action (VLA) 2.0 system will form the basis of a Level‑4 autonomous driving capability slated for a 2027 global rollout. The AI‑driven platform, described as the first with L4 potential in China, combines perception, planning and physical AI to handle complex urban and rural scenarios. Test drives in Beijing showed the system navigating traffic and parking with minimal driver intervention, though occasional hand‑overs were required. XPeng positions VLA 2.0 as a stepping stone toward fully driverless robotaxi services.
