XPeng launches closed‑beta testing of GX‑based robotaxi in Guangzhou

XPeng has entered closed beta testing of its robotaxi programme, using the newly launched GX six‑seat SUV as the platform. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng completed the first end‑to‑end ride from booking to drop‑off, demonstrating a fully integrated service chain inside the company’s Guangzhou headquarters.

The GX model, which debuted at a showroom in Dubai, showcases advanced features such as three‑row folding seats, AI‑adjustable privacy glass, air suspension and line‑steer. It is powered by four in‑house Turing AI chips delivering about 3,000 TOPS of compute, and runs a vision‑only Level 4 autonomous system with decision latency under 80 ms, eliminating the need for LiDAR or high‑definition maps.

XPeng plans pilot operations with safety drivers in the second half of 2026 and aims for fully driverless service by early 2027. The company also intends to expand robotaxi partnerships to Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, backed by a 7 billion‑yuan AI R&D budget for 2026.
