XPeng to consolidate product development lines to cut costs

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng is reportedly undergoing a significant internal restructuring to reduce rising development costs. According to industry reports from 36Kr, CnEVPost, and EV, the company plans to consolidate its internal product organization by reducing its four existing development lines—G, F, I, and D—down to just two.

Under the proposed reorganization, the F and I product lines will be merged into the larger G line, leaving the G and D lines as the primary remaining units. The D line is expected to continue focusing on the MONA vehicle family. This move aims to bundle development resources, minimize overlapping work between models, and streamline decision-making processes.

While XPeng has not officially confirmed these changes, the move follows a period of heavy investment in new electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. Despite achieving better margins recently, the company has also faced quarterly losses, increasing the pressure to manage expenditures more effectively. The restructuring approach mirrors similar efficiency measures taken by Volkswagen, a key partner of XPeng in China.
