Xplora smartwatches found to have serious security vulnerabilities

Researchers from TU Darmstadt have identified significant security vulnerabilities in certain children's smartwatches, specifically targeting models from Xplora, a major player in the European market. The study revealed that an attacker could potentially gain access to multiple devices by extracting a single digital key from one watch.

These flaws could allow unauthorized access to private conversations, images, and voice messages between a child's watch and the parents' application. Furthermore, attackers could send messages in the child's name and manipulate GPS data to provide false location information to parents.

While Xplora implemented some improvements following the initial findings in May 2025, researchers noted that fundamental issues persisted, prompting the company to issue a more comprehensive security update. Experts recommend that parents install all available software updates immediately and limit contact lists to essential individuals.
