XPRIZE announces winners of $11 million wildfire technology competition
The XPRIZE Foundation has announced the award winners for XPRIZE Wildfire, an $11 million global competition launched in 2023 to accelerate innovation in firefighting technologies. The winners were recognized during a ceremony at the New York City Fire Museum.
The competition focused on two primary tracks: Space-Based Wildfire Detection & Intelligence and Autonomous Wildfire Response. The goal of these tracks was to develop technologies capable of detecting and addressing wildfires at their earliest, most controllable stages to minimize destruction and improve response times.
Sponsored by PG&E, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Minderoo Foundation, and Lockheed Martin, the initiative aims to advance speed, accuracy, and autonomy in wildfire management to help humanity and natural fire cycles coexist more safely.
