Xreal Aura smart glasses announced with Android XR support
Xreal has announced the pricing and pre-order details for its Xreal Aura, a pair of spatial computing smart glasses powered by the Android XR platform. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, the device utilizes a split-computing architecture to maintain a lightweight frame of under 95 grams. The glasses connect via a cable to an external computing pack that houses the Snapdragon Reality Elite processor, battery, and a touchpad for interaction.
The Aura features optical see-through lenses with a 70-degree field of view, hand-tracking capabilities, and audio technology from Bose. It also integrates Google Gemini AI. Two configurations are available: a 12GB RAM/256GB storage model starting at $1,279 (approximately 229,800 JPY) and a 16GB RAM/512GB storage model for $1,499 (approximately 269,800 JPY).
Initial pre-orders and shipping are targeted for the United States, Canada, Japan, and South Korea, with shipments expected to begin before the end of the year. While the hardware offers advanced mixed-reality features, the device has also sparked discussions regarding privacy concerns related to its built-in cameras and environmental sensors.
