Cryptocurrency markets see Bitcoin surge and XRP activity rise
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing significant volatility and shifts in momentum. Bitcoin has surged past the $81,000 mark, driven by increased spot demand and massive liquidations of short positions totaling approximately $183 million. This recovery follows a period of downward pressure caused by interest rate decisions from the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan, the latter of which raised rates to a 31-year high.
Simultaneously, the XRP ecosystem is showing increased activity. The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has seen a rise in transaction volume and payment amounts, with daily payment volumes exceeding 1.1 billion XRP. While XRP faces technical resistance levels, analysts are monitoring a potential “Golden Cross” and a possible move toward the $2.00 mark if key resistance is broken. Additionally, the decline in XRP futures open interest—dropping about 23% to $871 million—suggests a market clearing of excessive leverage.
Broader market trends indicate a growing number of crypto millionaires, with Bitcoin holders making up the majority. Despite regulatory uncertainties in the U.S., such as the status of the CLARITY Act, institutional interest remains evident through significant inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs.
