XRP Ledger expands utility with Soil's RLUSD yield protocol
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is a decentralized, open-source blockchain that utilizes a consensus mechanism among servers rather than mining to validate transactions. Transactions on the network are finalized within three to five seconds at a minimal cost. While often confused with the cryptocurrency XRP or the US-based company Ripple, the XRPL is the underlying distributed database, XRP is the native digital asset used for fees, and Ripple is a private company that contributes to the ecosystem.
Expanding the utility of the network, Soil, developed by the ORQO Group, has launched a yield protocol for the RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger. The protocol allows users to deposit RLUSD into on-chain vaults to earn returns backed by private credit, tokenized Treasuries, and market-neutral hedging strategies. The initial asset pools of 1 million USD were fully utilized within 72 hours of launch, signaling a shift toward using stablecoins for real-world asset (RWA) based income rather than just payments and settlements.
