XRP Ledger activates permission delegation and batch transaction upgrades

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has activated two major protocol upgrades: PermissionDelegationV1_1 and BatchV1_1. These updates are designed to enhance institutional utility and operational security.

PermissionDelegationV1_1 allows account holders to assign up to ten specific transaction permissions to separate accounts. This enables organizations to manage daily operations, such as stablecoin issuance or treasury management, without exposing their master private keys. This functionality mimics traditional finance controls by separating operational authority from primary key ownership.

BatchV1_1 enables the bundling of two to eight transactions into a single atomic operation. This feature supports various execution modes, including an ‘all-or-nothing’ setting where every transaction in a bundle must succeed for the entire operation to complete. This is particularly useful for complex workflows like over-the-counter trades, NFT swaps, and delivery-versus-payment settlements.

Both upgrades required a supermajority of validator support to pass. While these features represent a significant step toward institutional adoption, developers are cautioned against delegating the ‘PaymentBurn’ permission due to an existing vulnerability that could allow unauthorized token creation. Additionally, a separate issue regarding validator vote counting has been identified for future resolution.
